3 more years

Well one of the things I spend alot of time thinking about is the next 3 years. Three years because at the end of 3 years I plan to retire. Why 3 years from now? Because by then Madison and Sloane should be done with college and taking care of themselves and Lochlan will be finished with her freshman year of college and should be able to take care of herself enough that I won't need to keep on working. We have a deal to pay for half her education cost (just like we did the other girls) but by then she will be spending most of her time with friends and so Heather and I can then go do our own thing which means we don't want to be encumbered by work.

By July of 2011 we should be serving a mission for the LDS church, we plan to put our papers in around January of 2011. By that date I will have served as bishop of the Cibola Ward for 5 years. (By the way, this month makes it 2.5 years since I have been serving as a Bishop so I am now about half done with my time in this calling).

Some of the major events we expect in the next 3 years:

Well there is a reasonable likely hood that Madison and Sloane will both be married by then.

I will have an opportunity to send that final email to say good-bye to all my ASML co-workers.

During that time I would like to continue to work on improving my tennis and perhaps start playing in some tournements or tennis legue. I got a ball machine about 4 months ago and my back hand has really improved, in fact it is now more consistent than my forehand.

I would also like to learn some Spanish during that time. I should plan on signing up for some classes at CNM this year.

I would also like to learn to play the guitar or piano during that time.

Probably the most important thing to do is spend quality time with Lochlan since in about 2 years we will only see her as she is coming and going to college. She will be a Junior this year at Cibola HS. We had some bumpy times with her during her sophmore year but the past 3 months she has been a pleasure to be with (most of the time).

Hopefully during that time we will sell some of our investment properties in Idaho or Rio Rancho, if they don't sell by then we plan to just sell our home and take about half of it to live on while we wait a couple more years until the investment properties sell, the other half would be used to by and build a new "grandparents" home.

First Post

I have two other blogs, one is called Lucyskids and it is all about my mom Leah Lucy Durtschi Phillips and some memories from the last few years of her life. The other blob is called Thoughts on a Rainy Day and it mainly has some documentation of work I did around my home in Corrales NM (mainly the Tennis court).

This blog will be just for recording day to day events. It will be a public blog so I won't get two personal in here but hopefully I can look back on this 3 or 5 years from now and recall some of the things happening in my life during this time.
